21st Banks Hockey Festival kicks off this weekend
THE END OF AUGUST means one thing to hockey players in
Barbados and even further afield in Trinidad & Tobago or even the
UK - the Banks International Hockey Festival is in the air.


But this year there is a little more to the message. This year the Barbados
Hockey Federation is proudly celebrating the 21st anniversary of the
event that was started by three of its members in 1986 and has gone from
strength to strength in those 21 years.


The 21st Festival will get underway this Sunday, August 20th with games
scheduled at the Astroturf between 10am and 3pm, before the 2006
Festival is officially launched at 5pm.


The Festival will run for a week, with games scheduled for the daytimeand
on Monday, August 21st, Wednesday, August 23rd, Friday, August
25th and Saturday, August 26th on the floodlit Astroturf at Wildey until
10pm.


There will also be a Talent Night at the Ship Inn from 8pm onwards on
Tuesday, August 22nd, Karaoke at the Astroturf from 7pm to 10pm on
Wednesday, August 23rd and a Beach Party at Pebbles Beach from 2pm
to 6pm on Thursday, August 24th.


For teams who arrive in Barbados this week, there will be an Oistins
Fish-Fry on Thursday, August 17th and a Cocktail Reception at Bert’s Bar
in Worthing on Friday, August 18th. Both are scheduled to start at 7:30pm.
Local teams may register on Thursday, August 17th from 5pm to7pm, and
Friday, August 18th from 4pm to 6pm at the Astroturf. On Saturday, 2
visiting team officials can go to Banks (Barbados) Breweries at 9am to
register.

 


Local, regional and international teams will compete for hockey supremacy in the Banks International Hockey Festival which kicks off this Sunday, August 20th.
