BARBADOS’ LARGEST beverage conglomerate, the BHL Group
was one of several local companies which capitalised on the
opportunity to showcase its products at the 2006 Barbados Expo.

Held from August 19th - 20th at the Olympia Exhibition Centre in London,
the expo attracted hundreds of visitors. BHL Business Development
Manager Ray Chee-A-Tow said, “The response to our brands was
exceptional. Banks Breweries’ Tiger Malt and Legends Export and
PHD’s tetra-pak juices in Passion Fruit, Guava Pineapple, Bajan Cherry,
Fruit Punch and Mango were on display.”
Pine Hill Dairy’s Export Sales & Marketing Manager Levear Bannister
added, “There was a steady steam of visitors to the booth and we were
pleased to note that many of them were already familiar with Pine Hill’s
products.”
Peter Martin, Managing Director of International Brands, United
Kingdom agents for Legends Premium Barbados Lager added, “As the
only beer brand from Barbados nationally available in The UK, the
Barbados Expo was a great opportunity for us to share the achievement
with consumers. We are delighted that Legends has achieved national
distribution in the off trade within selected Tesco Stores, and a national
listing within the ‘Beers Of The World’ section of WaverleyTBS on trade
distribution.”
He continued, “This achievement has been the result of a huge amount of
hard work from all parties involved, and whilst there is considerable work
to be done, to ensure Legends continues to extend it’s network of
availability, there is no doubt that the consumer has accepted the brand in
both taste and presentation here in The UK.”

Mr. Martin was encouraged by the reaction on the BHL booth at Expo
2006, from new consumers sampling Legends for the first time. “We
would like to be able to make Legends available to more customers, and
our task now is to work closely with other retailers to bring Legends to a
wider range of stores throughout all parts of the country. The Cricket
World Cup coming up next spring is a marvelous opportunity for us to
promote the brand, and with Barbados currently receiving great publicity
due to reciprocal ministerial visits, there has probably never been a better
time for retailers to stock a brand from this wonderful island,” concluded
Mr. Martin.
