Children to benefit greatly from YWCA's Milk-A-Thon

THURSDAY, June 18th

THE YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION (YWCA) was able to access an additional seven hundred cartons of milk during the final milk collection drive for the Milk-A-Thon 2015 initiative.

The drive was hosted on Saturday, June 13th at retailer Cost-U-Less and the Rendezvous branch of Trimart supermarket.

Overall, the Milk-A-Thon, which started on May 30, saw in excess of 3000 cartons donated by generous Barbadians. In addition to the specially labelled PINEHILL Whole and 2 per cent reduced fat milks, kind hearted adults and even children bought and donated the lactose free and flavoured milk options, giving the fortunate recipients a range from which to choose.

Package producers Tetra Pak will also donate three thousand cartons to the first-time initiative which seeks to provide disadvantaged children with milk. Charities Soroptimist and Variety - The Children's Charity are also to benefit from the donations.

President of the YWCA, Tamara Brathwaite said she continues to be touched by the benevolence of Barbadians.

"The Young Women's Christian Association of Barbados is blown away and extremely grateful to the public of Barbados for their support of our first Milk-A-Thon. The milk donated will be distributed to schools across the island, the Girls Industrial Unit, to the many homes of our clients including those in surrounding neighborhoods of the YWCA. We would also like to say a heartfelt thank you to all entities that assisted us including the retailers that participated. We encourage individuals to continue supporting those in need."

Category Manager for Juice and Dairy, Pine Hill Dairy, Henry Yearwood also extended gratitude to those who donated.

"We at Pine Hill Dairy would like to thank all those who saw the benefit of the venture and gave milk to those children to assist with their dietary needs. To the YWCA, Variety and Soroptimist, PINEHILL also thanks you all for your huge hearts and caring spirits as your belief and generosity made this possible. We do sincerely look forward to partnering again in 2016."

Even though the milk collection drives have concluded, the Milk-A-Thon will continue until the end of June. Donations can be made at Beverage Express, Pine Hill Dairy or Banks' Wholesale Depot in Newton.
