BHL Staff Promote Conservation on World Water Day

March 22, 2018

Staff of Banks Holdings Limited (BHL) are this year celebrating World Water Day by finding additional ways to save water across the group of companies.

On March 22, 2018, dozens of staff took time out of their shifts to participate in a scavenger hunt, with the goal of identifying leaks and other evidence of water wastage across the plants. The team which found the greatest number of leaks or the largest leaks, received prizes. Once identified, the leaks will be fixed.

This is the second year that BHL staff have participated in water conservation activities, with continued success. Rhonda Ward, Environmental Officer, BHL says, “Over the last two years, we’ve been able to reduce water use across the group in a substantial way. We wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without the support of staff, who have embraced the challenge to save water.”

In addition to the internal events, BHL has joined with its parent company, AB InBev, through its Better World programme, to introduce conversation measures within its plants. These efforts include the installation of automatic stops on taps in restrooms and the reclamation of water from the Brewery’s pasteurizer.

World Water Day was introduced by the United Nations in 1993. On March 22 every year organizations and individuals focus on the importance of water. The theme of World Water Day 2018 is “The Answer is in Nature”. In this respect, BHL will join with representatives of the Barbados Water Authority on Saturday, March 24, 2018 for a hike to the Golden Ridge Pumping Station and its surroundings.
