From Idea to Reality

What started as an idea in the mind of Guyanese entrepreneur Peter D'Aguiar in January 1959, became a reality on September 7, 1961 when Banks (Barbados) Breweries Ltd. opened its doors to business.

Initially Banks Beer was the lone beverage produced but by 1963 the company had added two well received original products to its portfolio - Milk Stout and TIGER MALT. This capacity for creating world class indigenous beverages while producing franchised international brands is at the heart of the Brewery's history of success.

By 1968 Banks had begun exporting its products to St. Vincent and Dominica.

In 1971 the beer received its first international award, a Diploma of Excellence at the Lager Beer Competition in England. The company would go on to win many more such accolades in a history marked by quality products.

Exports

In 1973, Banks took its exports to another level with the acquisition of the right of perpetual use of the Banks name throughout the English-speaking Caribbean from its former parent brewery Banks (DIH) in Guyana.

The year 1991 proved a watershed in the Company's history. It marked the establishment of parent company Banks Holdings Limited (BHL), the rebranding of the then 30- year-old beer label to include the award-winning 'B' sail emblem; and the Brewery also commenced production of Guinness under franchise.

The World is the Limit.

In 2005 BHL signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Banks DIH in Guyana, removing barriers to marketing and distributing local Banks products throughout Caricom and all other international markets.

In 2009 the goal of BHL and Banks DIH to launch unified Banks Beer brand imagery became a reality with the introduction of a Banks Beer bottle featuring both companies' signature ship and 'flying B.'

The result? The world's now the limit.

In 2003, Legends Premium Lager proved itself worthy of the BBBL name by capturing a Monde Selection gold after only five years on the market.
